Pregnancy and Censorship
While visiting a favorite Facebook page of mine- Confessions of a Childfree Woman (by the amazing Marcia Drut-Davis) I noticed a post today where she remarked that an article she posted was removed by Facebook. According to Facebook, she didn't follow the rules for 'Community Standards'.
I call- BULLSHIT!
There is so much 'inappropriate' content (porn, excessive nudity, violence, hate speech, etc) which could never possibly play by their rules that it's amazing that THIS article managed to push more than a few buttons. And why is that? Because it treated pregnancy as nothing more than the medical and biological event that it is and removed all the sacred and religious fervor that usually accompanies the subject.
Let us remove the craptastic rose colored glasses here. I refused to bow my head and only treat the subject of reproduction with reverence. Pregnancy as a rule should not be treated with reverence-as if every child is the alleged return of the Christian Savior and every human incubator is the Mother of God. More importantly, when someone shares and article, which addresses the biological effects of pregnancy on multiple species of creature in the world, and gets condemned, blocked, and the sharer is criticized....THAT is beyond wrong!
What is Facebook afraid of? That if someone reads an article on the biological aspects of pregnancy that they may no longer consider it their sacred duty to God? Or perhaps they may not want to follow in the footsteps of the Madonna? What if some of the readers choose NOT to have children? HOLY SHIT! Or....maybe they'll read the article, think the event of pregnancy is an even bigger miracle than ever and run off to give the Duggars a run for their money? Either way....what role does Facebook play in censoring an article that treats pregnancy as a potentially lethal, biological occurrence rather than a religious calling? Who are they to decide what men and women are allowed to read? All I can say with a fair amount of certainty is that that someone thought this article didn't treat pregnancy like a 'miracle' and decided to punish Marcia Drut-Davis for posting it. But the Childfree by Choice lady has some moxie and has posted the link for the article on her blog.-Childfree Reflections. It's definitely a blog worth visiting and Marcia is someone I look up to as a Childfree individual.
So here is the link for the article-"War in the Womb".....read it for yourself...judge for yourself....THINK for yourself!!
Were it me making that post I'd have made a copy of it in anticipation of FB and redo it again. If I lost FB meh, it's not a big loss.
